How My Kitchen Accident Turned Into Solomon Soda Co.
When I remodeled my kitchen last year, I had a commercial ice maker framed in next to the cabinetry. Above it? Just a blank wall. I added a few cute shelves and styled them with cookbooks—pretty, but I never actually used them. And in a small kitchen, that space felt wasted.
Then came the accidental sno cone machine purchase. I thought I was ordering a small one for the grandkids—turns out, I ordered a full-on commercial unit. Whoops. But that kicked off a full-on obsession with syrups and flavor combos… and of course, nowhere to put them.
A friend casually pointed out that empty corner, and my wheels started spinning. Before I knew it, I had transformed it into what is now lovingly called Solomon Soda Co. (Yes, we named it. Yes, there’s a logo.)
I got tiny cups with lids, made custom labels for the flavors, made kid sized short straws, and even created personalized mini Stanley cups for the grandkids with homemade stickers. I hunted down vintage (looking)-style dishes to hold lemon, lime, and orange packets, stocked up on individual creamers, and tested lots of syrup flavors. Oh, and I got pourers for the bottles—the kind that keep bugs out, because yes... we learned that the hard way.
We’ve made three drinks we actually think are amazing—one you’ve probably heard of, and two are our own creations. I’ll drop the recipes here in this post.
For the grandkids, it’s mostly flavored waters, but they love it just as much as the grownups.
If you don’t have a built-in ice maker or the plumbing for one, I also tried out a countertop ice maker from Lowe’s that’s affordable, compact, and works great. I'll link that.
So that’s how a blank wall, a big ice machine, and a tiny idea turned into Solomon Soda Co. The happiest little accident that now lives in our kitchen.
I’ll add all the links and recipes below if you want to start your own version.
