One Room Challenge- Kitchen

One Room Challenge: Week 1 – Taking the Leap

I've always wanted to jump into the One Room Challenge (ORC), but fear held me back—until now! My daughter told me to "get comfortable with discomfort," so here I am, ready to embrace the chaos!

I’m remodeling a room in an old hotel my son-in-law, Jud  and I bought. None of the rooms have kitchens, so my plan  is to turn a studio apartment into a cozy spot with a small kitchen.  In 8 weeks.  No pressure, right?

Why Am I Nervous? Planning? Not my strong suit. I usually wing it and let inspiration hit me—a fun mural, a cool thrift find, or a daring sofa color. But this time, I'm attempting mood boards! What am I, a Pinterest guru?

The Plan for Week 1

This week is all about prepping the space:

  • Demo: Bye-bye, old furniture, flooring and fixtures!

  • Cleanout: Time for a deep clean—because we all know that demo dust is not a décor style!

  • Prep & Mood Boards: I’m mixing modern with vintage charm. Think clean lines with bold accents—a functional yet cozy oasis for this old hotel room.

What's Next? Next week, the fun kicks off with painting and flooring. Follow along as I tackle each step, week by week, and try not to lose my sanity in the process!

This is how it looks as we start week 1:

I can't decide on exact design decisions, here are three mood boards I'm thinking of.
